My story begins when I was in elementary school, and my mother took me and my two older sisters to the nearest branch of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library every other Tuesday afternoon. Quickly I learned which side was the “children’s side” and which was for adults. I checked out many fiction and non-fiction books and continue to do so at TPL to this day.
Now I also visit TPL to check out music, movies, and television programs; maker space boxes of tools and kits; jigsaw puzzles. I read newspapers and magazines without having to buy a subscription myself — or dispose of them!
Newspapers such as The Oakland Press are vital to my being an informed citizen and knowledgeable voter.
I cannot imagine, nor do I want to imagine what life would be like in a community without a nearby public library.
