Bookshop to Reopen August 14, 2021

The Library has reopened and the Friends have been given the “green light” to resume business. On Saturday, August 14, 2021 the Bookshop located on the lower level of the Troy Public Library will re-open. Our hours are: Saturdays from 10am-1pm and Sunday from 1pm -4pm.

The Friends Shop (locate in the library lobby) is dependent on the availability of volunteers to serve as cashiers and will be open intermittently during normal library hours when volunteers are available.

We are also happy to report that we will once again be accepting donations beginning in August 2 with the following new procedures.

Large donations (3 boxes or more) will be accepted by appointment only. Appointments may be scheduled through the TPL calendar.

Smaller donations (2 boxes or less) may be dropped in the lobby donation box during regular library hours with the following guidelines:

1. Materials donations must be securely bagged or boxed before being placed in the donation bin.

2. Donations should be in good condition and mold, smoke, and bug free.

3. Keep in mind that we do not accept encyclopedias, audio/VHS cassettes, or time sensitive materials older than 1 year.

Please see the donations page for more information.

Our shops will be reopening beginning on August 14, 2021

The Friends have been given the “green light” to reopen.  Our lower level Book Shop will reopen beginning August 14, 2021

Here is what to expect beginning August 14!

The Friends operate two unique shops right in the Troy Public Library!

Watch this video for a comprehensive overview of our operations from Board Member Lou Wassel (click here!).

Friends Book Shop   Saturdays 10-1PM and Sundays 1-4PM

Located on the lower level of the library, the Book Shop is open every weekend. You’ll find thousands of items in various categories, from our youngest readers to adult-aged book lovers. Organized by subject, we carry a large variety of fiction in hardcover, trade paperback, and pocket paperback sizes, as well as audio fiction.  Our non-fiction subjects span every interest, and we have a large selection of AV materials, including CD’s and DVD’s.

Most items are priced at $1.00 or less and are hand-selected by our hard-working volunteers to provide you the highest quality materials.

Friends Gift Shop: Hours for our Lobby Friends Gift shop will vary depending on the availability of volunteers to work.

Located in the library lobby, across from the Circulation Desk, the Gift Shop has a great selection of unique gift items for adults, teens and children, including:

  • Jewelry
  • Fashion accessories
  • Greeting cards, stationery and gift bags
  • School and office supplies
  • Toys and games
  • Decorative home decor
  • “Emergency” items like batteries, umbrellas, sewing kits, ear buds and reading glasses

For your convenience, the Friends Shop also carries a limited selection of used books, music CDs and movies on Blu Ray and DVD’s.  Proceeds from both of our shops support all the  programming and various  library enhancements.

Volunteer with us! We always welcome volunteers to help us work in our shops. Shifts are flexible, and the library is a great place for high school students (16 years or older) to earn community service credit. Join us today!

Join Programs and Groups

The Friends promote and support the Troy Public Library, and we have done so for over fifty years!  That means we provide the funding for the programming and enhancements at the library. Every time you attend a program or presentation for youth or adults, or use materials and enhancements (like the meeting room or lobby furniture!), we’ve provided the funding to make that possible!

There is always something going on at the Troy Public Library. Check out the TPL calendar for events and programs; these are planned and executed by the talented and dedicated librarians and staff.  They include the following:

  • Summer reading clubs for youth, teens, and adults
  • Book clubs on a range of topics
  • Computer classes
  • Lap-sits and craft programs in the newly remodeled Youth Services room
  • Author and book signings
  • High school study groups
  • Special speakers on history, psychology, couponing, sports and more!
